About us

Our Story

T-1 Steel is based out of Kelowna, British Columbia.  We have been in operation in the Okanagan for 19 years. Tommy and his wife Marjie were a team effort.  Together they built a successful company.  Both worked for a steel erection company previous to starting T-1 Steel Erectors in 2002 – Tommy,  in the field,  running crane and taking care of maintenance, and Marjie working as bookkeeper in the office.  When the company they worked for closed shop, they were asked by A-1 Machine & Welding to take over the contracts held by their previous employer. T-1 Steel’s first project was in Cranbrook, BC.  Having no equipment, or company vehicles, Tommy took his Honda Accord with what it could hold to the new project.  Luckily the project in Cranbrook was next door to a rental company. T-1 Steel Erectors was built on the strength of its workers.  We have been fortunate to have loyal, hardworking and talented employees. Tommy passed away from Cancer in 2006.  Marjie took over the running of the company with the help of the crew and the support from the local businesses. She is very ‘hands on’ and enjoys working in the field, rigging the steel.  Ken Kornelson, of Ken’s Crane & Rigging, was very supportive and helpful to her giving useful tips in the best ways to rig the steel. Over the past several years, Marjie’s three sons have joined the company.  Each bringing with them their own special talents.  It has truly become a family business! While most of our projects are located in the Thompson/Okanagan area, we have traveled the province with our projects as far as Anaheim Lake, Bella Coola, Williams Lake, Prince George, Cranbrook, and Surrey to name a few.
